Welcome to Night City #5 – Lets Talk Gangs

Good evening, choombas!

J Gray, line manager of Cyberpunk RED, here, for another preview of the upcoming Night City 2045 sourcebook! This week, we’re going to chat about factions. As noted in our first preview, the Factions chapter of this book features information on 44 gangs, 6 criminal organizations, and 23 security providers. For full transparency, there is some overlap there. For example, 6th Street and the Gold Dragons are both listed in the gang section and the security provider section.

First off, every gang has a logo! Here’s four fun examples of logos you’ve never seen before – unless you work for RTG or are the original artist.

Now, for the previews!

We recently came back from Louisville, Kentucky, and I’ve been inspired by the walking tours I encountered there to present twenty facts in a “Did You Know?” style (little note from Rob here, these were pretty cool for all the bourbon stuff, not that I’m biased for bourbon or anything.) Stick around to the end with a sneak peak at a new piece of 2045 district art!

DID YOU KNOW …

… the Arzin Tynon buy hard into the concept of American biker culture as established in the 20th century?

… The DeadWoods fund their train-guardian mission by raising capital through the Molly May casino in The Glen?

… The Gold Dragons adhere to a code of honor derived from old Hong Kong action movies with an almost posergang level of obsession?

… the Inquisitors have made significant inroads in recruiting and radicalizing corpzoner teenagers, who initially join to rebel against their cybernetically enhanced, ladder-climbing parents?

… The Julliard Guild claims fifteen percent of a performer’s take. In return, members receive armed protection from “aggressive patrons” and access to plum performance spots in the city,

… If you spot a mob of armed, high punks with blood red rippers shouting “Fuck everything!” that’s probably the Kill Krashers.

… The Prime-Time Players include subgroups such as the Kennedys, the Castaways, the Final Frontiers, and the Stallones?

… The disturbingly cute Gibbering Eye of the Void plushie was a popular holiday gift last December, adding significantly to the Reckoners’ coffers?

… Extended family and junior members of the Steel Vaqueros stay behind in two cities – Salinas and Night City – to run shops and ensure the caravan crews always have a safe place to rest and recharge?

… Members of the Tombstone Preservers are easily identified by their bald heads and somber, well-tailored suits?

… The Undertow has a fondness for 1950s greaser fashions and Molotov cocktails?

… The Wild Things follow a code, in which weapons should be an extension of the body … so firearms are a weakling’s tool?

… Members of the Willows are among the most skilled female edgerunners in Night City, including Solos Kissy and Roxxi, Queen of the Afterlife Rogue Amendiares, and the Netrunner Jenny Jett.

… The Consortium’s connections to the Vyriy, a Russian nomad nation, make them a major player in the smuggling market as their ships do not rely on Thelas routes to safely cross the Pacific?

… Rather than focusing efforts on one or two enterprises, El Norte Cartel is running small pilot programs to test out the viability of drug dealing, smuggling, extortion, identity theft, and counterfeiting in Night City?

… In the 2030s, the Kanzaki Family invested nearly all of its remaining resources into Future BuildWorks, a struggling construction company?

… 6th Street provides protection to multiple locations in Night City, including Holy Angels Church, the First Baptist Church of Night City, Minimallism, and Aerocab?

… . Lazarus is under contract to provide security for multiple private locations, including the Consulate Causeway, the World Stock Exchange, the Network 54 Plaza, and Trauma Team Tower?

… Trained K-9 units supplement the numbers of Los Perros Guardianes, the deputized law enforcement agency in the Reclamation Zone?

… Specialized NorCal Marshals, known as Rangers, work under the State Executioner to hunt down and eliminate fugitives while Marshal Inspectors travel the state to investigate unique and high-profile cases with multi-jurisdictional implications?

We hope you enjoyed this set of twenty “Did You Know?” facts about Night City’s factions. As promised, here’s a look at art for the Old Combat Zone.
